Edison Township Public Schools serves approximately 17,000 students from pre-K through grade 12. Four middle schools offering technology education courses feed into the district’s two high schools, where students can choose from a wide variety of technology education offerings.
John P. Stevens High School, located in North Edison, enrolls approximately 2,600 students and currently offers 16 technology education electives taught by three dedicated instructors. While our department occupies a modest footprint within the building, its impact on students is significant and far-reaching.
The site visit will highlight two Technology Education classrooms which, together, offer 11 full-year elective courses and support two competition-level clubs.
Kevin Kearney, a 30-year veteran at John P. Stevens High School, teaches Electronics I and Robotics I, II, and III. He also serves as advisor to FIRST Robotics Competition Team #2554 in Room 138.
Therese May, a Registered Architect, joined John P. Stevens in 2015 through the alternate route program. She teaches Engineering I, II, and III; Architecture I, II, and III; and Construction Technology in Room 139. In addition, she advises the ACE Mentor Program, Middlesex Chapter.
Classroom tours will emphasize the use of moveable, storable, and multi-purpose furniture and equipment designed to maximize flexibility and functionality. The curriculum overview will focus on strategies for managing differentiation and multi-leveled class periods, ensuring that all students are continually challenged and engaged.
